About me
Teresa (Terry) Filipowicz has been an Artificial Intelligence Teaching and Learning Center Faculty Fellow; Chair for the Chancellor's initiative to improve faculty and institutional communication; Instructional Faculty; Journalism and Media Discipline Coordinator; Communication, Journalism, and Media Online Master Course Lead and Subject Matter Expert; and Student Media Advisor at Pima Community College. She also has served on the Information Technology Strategic Planning Committee plus the Artificial Intelligence Governance Council and its Business and Industry Subgroup. She's especially involved and interested in community, industry, and business partnerships. In July 2024, she joined the board of American Advertising Federation's Tucson chapter and has served as chair of the Education and Internship Committee.
Most of her career is in television news as an executive producer, supervising producer, producer, and writer in Arizona and California. Before accepting a fulltime College position, Terry was Acting President for a book publisher with a niche in gifted education and psychology. With her LLC Sip and Go Media, she has provided communication and writing services to those involved in education and media plus creates her own multimedia creative content.
She and a coworker won a Broadcast Education Association 2024 Two-Year College/Scholastic Interest Division Teaching Award for the Personal Portfolio Website assignment in a mass communication course. During grad school, she won a Debut Paper Award at BEA 2004 for her research on television newsroom producers and writers. A career highlight so far is winning the Tucson Executive Excellence award for Chief Operating Officer of 2018 because of her book publisher role. In May 2023, Terry graduated from Greater Tucson Leadership Lead Tucson program.
BEA has become her favorite academic organization because it is a blend of theory and practice with creative, clever broadcast educators and industry members but she has also been involved with and presented at National Communication Association, Western States Communication Association, World Communication Association, Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted, Tucson Festival of Books, plus numerous other organizations.
Her BA is in journalism and criminal justice and her MA is in communication studies with a focus in media and in public and political (rhetoric).
Talk to Terry, too, about travel, languages, genealogy, boogie boarding, scuba diving, running, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, reading, writing, spirituality and philosophy, fashion and design, and dance including Irish, Polish, Folklorico, and tap. She will also talk about how poorly she plays beach volleyball. But, really, Terry will talk about pretty much anything.
