About me
I am a recovering sportswriter who worked for the Lexington Herald-Leader in various positions for more than 20 years, including copy editor, designer, news and sports reporter. While working in the sports department for most of my career, I covered everything from high school sports to racing — both the horse and horsepower kinds — before settling into the University of Kentucky football beat in 2011. I was courtside in New Orleans for UK’s 2012 national championship and in the press box for the Citrus Bowl win in 2019. I also covered the UK women’s basketball beat for more than 17 seasons.
In 2016 and 2017, I was named Kentucky Sports Writer of the Year by the National Sports Media Association. I also was a Top 10 sports beat writer in the country in 2017, according to the Association of Professional Sports Editors. I have won multiple sports feature and story competitions in the past two decades.
In 2017, I started my career at UK by teaching sports journalism and got hooked. I took my full-time position starting in 2019 and received my master’s degree in Sports, Media and Branding in 2021 from Western Kentucky University.
Recently I was given a few new titles, including assistant professor as well as sequence coordinator for Journalism and internship coordinator for the School of Journalism and Media. I also am the faculty director for our college’s brand new Certificate in Sport Communication, Media and Promotion.
